Frequently asked questions

Is the exam 003 or 004?

The current exam is the Terraform Associate 004, which launched on 8 January 2026 and tests Terraform 1.12. The older 003 has been retired. The most visible changes for 003 studiers are the Terraform Cloud to HCP Terraform rebrand and alignment to newer Terraform releases.

How long should I prepare?

With some Terraform experience, 2–4 weeks of study plus hands-on practice is typical.

Is it hands-on?

No — it is a multiple-choice exam (60 minutes), but real Terraform experience makes it far easier. HashiCorp does not officially publish the exact question count or pass mark.
