How to renew the Terraform Associate certification

HashiCorp certifications last two years. Here is exactly when and how to recertify the Terraform Associate, what it costs, and what happens if it lapses.
Your Terraform Associate is valid for two years from the day you pass. Renewing is straightforward, but the timing rules catch people out, so it is worth planning ahead.

How to recertify, step by step
- Check your expiry date in your HashiCorp certification account.
- In the six months before it expires, register for the current Terraform Associate exam (now the 004).
- Pass it. Your certification clock resets to two years from the new pass date.
HashiCorp's general policy is that passing a current exam at the same level or higher recertifies you. Where a higher-level exam in the same product exists, passing it can also extend an active Associate — but do not assume a higher Terraform exam is available; check the current catalogue.
What if it has already lapsed?
Nothing dramatic happens — a lapsed certification simply means you are no longer "currently certified" until you pass again. There is no penalty and no separate lapsed-renewal process; you take the current exam like any other candidate.
